Eulogy to El Hilo Rosado

por Emilia S,

A sad farewell to my ball of pink twine,

the great "Rinde-Mas"  brand of nylon so fine.

You work so hard to tie together my life,

now with no more to use, there'll be nothing but strife.

I found you at the ferreteria,

so I bought you with ganas and much alegria.

Your first job was to tie penca to my techo,

thanks to you my casa was soon hecho.

But you didn't stop there, oh no! Rinde-Mas

you hold open my doors, adelante y atrás.

Amarraste the walls of my servicio,

and support the stalks of my plum tomato.

With you I made brooms to sweep out the dirt,

and a closet to hang all my shorts and my shirts.

When my toilet seat cracked, you came to the rescue,

and you hold up my net to keep out the sanku'.

On you all my ropa is hung out to dry,

so that the whole pueblo mis pantis can spy.

You steady my pluma, from which I get water,

along with every vecina, sister and daughter.

You create a fence to keep all the caballos

from stomping around y machucando mis tallos.

Wrapping and winding, a barbacoa hicimos,

so now I can plant semilleros de pinos.

The coconut husk in which a fern I did plant,

you hang from a branch infested with ants.

On that same branch of a naranja tree,

you support the flowering vine que yo conseguí.

You helped us build rice tank walls nice and straight,

and space our corn rows without measuring tape.

You made posible the school's 3-legged race

(although one niño fell smack on his face).

Just one little knot and you were a perfect key ring,

I surely will miss you, great ball of pink string!

Ans so will my neighbors, who borrowed you such,

Le agradecemos mucho, I thank you much!
