Speakers from various panamanian organizations have been invited to address leadership, self-esteem, education, and health related issues. In addition to the lectures, fun activities have been planned such as a sewing class and an aerobics class. This is an excellent opportunity to promote the empowerment of young women. NEED TO FURNISH YOUR CASA?

Are you moving into a new home soon? Or maybe you already have a home but sadly there is no music. Eric W. has the solution... An almost new Sony AM/FM casette radio. You would pay $75.00 on Avenida Central; but be the first to give Eric W. $25.00 and it is all yours! WOW! What a bargain. Contact Eric W. at 260-8256

If you need more than a radio for your house, for example, EVERYTHING, contact Tonya Droessler. I would love to sell it all for a negotiable price. I have everything for the cocina, blankets, boots, sheets, storage containers, etc.. I can be reached through Entrega General de Chame, Panama Oeste; or leave a message in my box.

IT'S NOT OUR FAULT
Putting together this issue has been an adventure as an unnamed red-haired friend of our's fried the disc upon which many of the submissions had been saved (it probably wasn't his fault and he says that he's "exteremly sorry.") If you submitted something and it's not in this issue then that's the reason why (or maybe your submission sucked and we threw it out) anyway...IT'S NOT OUR FAULT.

As we continuously consider newer and better mottos for our little rag, "It's not our fault" always seems to rise to the top of the list.

Out with the Old
With our policy of 'out with the old and in with the new' (or is that Peace Corps policy) we bid a fond farewell to Chief Executive Co-Editor Eric Weisman, who has been called the "backbone" of the Vaina by people who should know. Tonya and Carol will be going out in a blaze of glory with next issues special COS edition (will they have graphics? stay tuned to find out), we're all sure it's an issue that you won't want to miss.

In with the New
Be sure to give tips, feedbacks, and suggestions to Michael A. and Christina D.(who promises to be here for the production of the very next issue and will surely be hazed for missing this one, however she claimed that Mark scheduled an encuentro that she had to go to, so It's Not Her Fault) the newest Chief Executive Co-Editors of this fine publication. If you want to be a part of this future Pulitzer Prize winning team, it's not too late. The Vaina production always seems to work best with a third wheel, and if you'd like to be that third wheel just show up for the next issue: Be sure to give tips, feedbacks, and suggestions to Michael A. and Christina D.(who promises to be here for the production of the very next issue and will surely be hazed for missing this one, however she claimed that Mark scheduled an encuentro that she had to go to, so It's Not Her Fault) the newest Chief Executive Co-Editors of this fine publication. Submit Submit Submit
Before we forget, in our ongoing effort to make it easier for you and us to make the Vaina bien pritty, we now have yet another way to submit. Each of the high speed pentium 2, 600 megahertz computers (or if they're not there use the shitty macs) in the volunteer's space have, thanks to support from the technical staff, installed upon the desktop a folder entitled "Vaina Sept. Submissions." Save your submissions there if you'd like. You should still print out a hard copy and put it in the box behind Dayra's desk. As always, you can also save your submission on the disc in the box (which may or may not be mistakenly erased) or send it to us via e-mail (the address can be found on every second page of this magazine). Before we forget, in our ongoing effort to make it easier for you and us to make the Vaina bien pritty, we now have yet another way to submit. And don't even think about trying to use the computers on September

HOTEL GRAN MATEO

Staying a night in Santiago and there´s no room at the Hotel Gran David?

Looking for a low-budget but high-spirited hospedaje? No need to worry. After recent management changes, the Hotel Gran Mateo is open for visitors del campo. Yes, the Hotel Gran Mateo offers all the comforts of home (management claims no responsibility for unmet expectations) with available hammock time (when not being used by the management), a gas stove for cooking (when part of the prepared meal is offered to the management) and all the tipico, salsa, merengue you can imagine. Yes, damas y caballeros, no pueden fallar cuando se quedan al HOTEL GRAN MATEO.

In an effort to provide the same excellent service to everyone, please call in advance; because unlike the previous management, lodging will NOT be offered to seven people st once. El HOTEL GRAN MATEO is world reknown for its quality, NOT its size. Give us a call at 998-6419 (8 a.m. -5 p.m.) and ask for EL GRAN MATEO.

The light might be on for you. Si Dios quiere.

Desert Island’ Discs
por Eric Weisman

I´m pretty confident that Peace Corps is the closest I´ll ever come to being stuck on a desert island. Here are the 10 casettes that most helped me make it through. (I´ve decided not to include tipico.)

Send in yours.

In no particular order:

  • Ani Difranco - Living in Clip
  • Smashing Pumpkins - Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness
  • Gillian Welch - Revival
  • Jayhawks - Tomorrow the Green Grass
  • Lyle Lovett - Joshua Judges Ruth
  • Patty Smith - Horses
  • The Beatles - Anthology 3
  • Maria McKee - You’ve Gotta Sin to be Saved
  • PJ Harvey - To Bring You My Love
  • Elvis Costello - Almost
